SUBAM, a Toilet Tool Kit to
be of immense use to the promoter of toilets of different designs,
public of the different models of toilets from which he could
select the one of his own choice of depending on his needs, and
to ToTs who would like to train the staff on different models
of toilets available has been developed by Ms. Amudha, I.A.S.
UNICEF and SCOPE.
Four different models of pits like the direct pit latrine, on
site pit latrines, honey comb brick construction of pit latrines,
different models of water closets for the latrines, as also different
models of super structure like bricks, hollow blocks, dried coconut
leaves etc. are arranged neatly in the tool kit, which is very
handy. The types of toilets suitable for different areas like
clay soil, hard soil areas, rocky areas are available in the kit,
so that they could weigh after the pros and cons of the variety
of choices select the type most suitable to them. The tool kit
neatly packed in a box is very handy and offers maximum 25 toilet
models.
With the support of the UNICEF, District Administration and the
French NGO, FIN(Friends in Need) about 300 Ecosan toilets were
built in the village. The residents came up with about Rs.1,500
as their own contribution for the toilets.
